We stayed at the Marriott and booked dinner at the Helsman out of convenience. We were pleasantly surprised by the food which was just as good if not better than a lot of the other hyped up restaurants in Mystic and Groton. Special kudos to Olivia who was beyond friendly, professional, and accommodating.
As "locals", we stop here regularly as it's a solid place on our drive home after a long day. However, this time, I sat alone at the restaurant bar and had the pleasure of having Tia as my bartender and server. I can't begin to tell you how awesome she is. Great at her craft, full of energy and made my dinner experience an absolute pleasure. I can't wait to bring my better half back! Oh, and the prime rib special was good too, so well done kitchen staff, but you have a gem putting it all together! Thank you for the wonderful meal.
I like the new redesigned bar and restaurant. It looks very nice. I was hoping this bar was part of the lobby bar, but it is separated and not as warm and friendly because the cool crowd is in the lobby. If I could change one thing, I would try to integrate the two bars into one in the lobby area.
Our Christmas holiday dinner worked out well, especially since we were given a private room for our family group, which made the evening feel relaxed and well organized. The atmosphere was pleasant, and arriving early helped us settle in before the rush. One area that could be improved is the lighting in this particular private room, which could be cozier for a dinner setting, and the room’s meeting‑style layout could be blended more fully with a warm dining ambiance. Still, the food and drink selections were strong, offering plenty of appealing choices, and the attentive, upbeat wait staff kept the experience running smoothly from start to finish.
I’ve visited The Helmsman twice now on visits to the Mystic Marriott. The space is beautiful, and the menu had some great choices. My friend and I enjoyed a night out here during the fall, and I had a caramel apple mocktail that was quite possibly the best mocktail I’ve ever had. Our dishes were good, and my fiancé and I were very impressed when we visited another time to try their Valentine’s menu. Our servers were attentive and friendly as well!
Everything was amazing. The Newly renovated space is minimalistic without lacking a thing. Music was great. Our favorite thing was the Caesar salad. Nathan was our server. Nathan was very friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and attentive. Definitely stop in and at least try a Punch and a Kick it is a delightful rum based drink with pineapple & orange juice, mango nectar and grenadine.
I was down here and staying at the Marriott with my wife and daughter for her 7th birthday to go to the Mystic Aquarium. We decided stay in and try out the restaurant at the hotel after a long day of walking around. We all were beyond impressed. When they found out that it was my daughter’s birthday, Kevin Patel, immediately asked what she liked, vanilla or chocolate. We ordered around of drinks to start. My daughter ordered a lemonade, my wife a lemon drop martini, and myself a local IPA. The drinks came out quick and were delicious. My daughter said the lemonade was refreshing, my wife loved the martini, and my IPA tasted great and was ice cold. We got 1/2 dozen oysters to start…so good! My wife got the clam chowder, I got the braised short rib, and daughter got the kids chicken fingers and ranch. The food came out quicker than expected, especially for a busy Saturday night. Food was … chef’s kiss! Everything was great! Highly recommend! But what blew myself and my wife away was the Customer service Kevin provided. He made the night special for our daughter. We gave him a candle and he asked if she would like a fruit on the side with whip cream or something. We said she loved strawberries. He took the candle back for when we were ready for desert. When it was time he came out with a piece of delicious chocolate cake and the plate presentation was top notch and a bowl of fresh strawberries on the side. She devoured the strawberries and decided to save the piece of cake and brought it back to the room for later. But the care and customer service we got from our waitress and Kevin was top notch! He brought her over and surprised her with some extra treats for her birthday. This was the icing on the cake (pun intended). Thank you Kevin Patel, our waitress, and the entire staff for making our daughters birthday dinner great! They went above and beyond. They all have true attentiveness and care for the customers. Very satisfied customers right here. Next time we come
My wife and I celebrated our 4-year wedding anniversary at The Helmsman, and I have to say… major husband win. We were staying at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa for business, and I made a reservation as a surprise. From the moment we arrived, the staff made it feel special. They were kind, welcoming, and even got us seated early so we could enjoy happy hour. Ambiance leans classy and bright. Great beer selection. My wife was thrilled to learn that Tito’s was their "well" vodka in her happy hour martini. Our bartender was fantastic and also handled our dinner table. Truly stellar service Attentive without hovering, and full of genuine anniversary well-wishes. My wife ordered the sole and said it was phenomenal. I’m not typically a fish guy, but even I had to admit it was outstanding. I went with the filet mignon, cooked perfectly, with lobster mashed potatoes that were loaded with lobster — not just a hint, but the real thing. Exceptional food. Exceptional service. If you’re looking to impress your wife, celebrate something special, or just enjoy a great meal, this is the spot.
just want to give a huge shoutout to Yuleika I had an amazing experience here The restaurant just reopened after renovations and it was really busy. I had sat down and was greeted by Yuleika. The part that matters: The food came out fast and it was honestly one of the best dishes I’ve had in the southern CT region. The drinks were amazing and she made great recommendations. From what I could see she made sure everyone was taken care of in all the chaos. She made sure to check in consistently to see if I needed anything. We had great conversations about her work and what she does it just made me forget about all the stress from the day. I could tell that she genuinely wanted me to have an amazing experience.
I had my birthday dinner here. I haven’t been here since it was the Octagon. We all had a great time! Our server Brynn was fantastic, the manager Luke was great, shoutout to Nathaniel and Caesar as well! The food was prompt and delicious and the drinks were great as well. 10/10 experience.
